Eclipse for Mac 64bit Ready

My silly habit to check if any program running is not transferred to 64bit. Actually it proves that the move is very smooth and transparent. If you don’t check, you never know!!

MacBook Pro 3,1 cannot boot 64 bit kernel

Initially I thought it’s my MacBook Pro’s hardware issue. But I searched Apple’s discussion forum and found I’m not alone.
Hope Apple will highlight this, though I know using 64 bit kernel may be other software compatibility issues at this moment…

更改Snow Leopard預設中文字體

雖然對「雪豹」讚不絕口，但缺點仍是有的，那便是中文字型。說來奇怪，好端端的字體為何忽然轉了？這算是bug嗎？還是老外根本分不出有何分別？
新的Heiti TC好處是筆劃比都幼細比較清晰，不過筆劃的錯誤好像對中國字的一點侮辱，就像到外國人永遠都會把中國人誤認為日本人一樣。

假如你也有同感，可以用TCFail把字型更改成10.5的LiHei Pro字型。

Chinese Input

雖然不少報導說升級到10.6後效能上沒有太大分別，不過如果你一向是Mac的用戶，必然發現介面上的反應加快了不少，最明顯莫過於中文輸入法！速成的提示差不多立刻出現。雖然我依然比較喜歡Yahoo! 中文輸入法（暫時沒遇到兼容問題）。順帶一提，朋友說九方不能在10.6裡安裝，除非你有multi-touch trackpad又或者繪圖板否則還是用回傳統的輸入法吧！

Printer Drivers On Demand

用了一天的功夫測試對工作的影響，決定安裝後再花了一整晚過data。雖然有些比較system level的程式無法使用，例如cocktail, cyberduck, NX client，大體上升級非常順利，也解決了小弟的Macbook Pro最近極不穩定的問題。雖然今次Mac OS沒有驚天動地的改動，但非常欣賞它從小處裡著手，其實仔細看有不少位置都作了tunning，事實上比盲目去增加新功能踏實得多（有點像我們工作的方針）

裝OS最麻煩就是找各種driver，尤其是新的OS要找新的driver。其中一項我最喜歡Snow Leopard的新功能是printer driver on-demand，只花數秒俟找對和裝好printer driver，還足足省下1GB的位置！

Now! Best Mac Notebook Buy Time

After Apple announced the anew coming Mac OS X – Snow Leopard and all new Mac laptops(6 models! the most variety I’ve seen), it’s really the best time to get one of the machines! Again, new cool machine plus next generation of OS!

For me, my 2 year-old 2.4GHz MBP is still very healthy and fast! Hopefully I got a higher model at that time and upgraded to 4GB RAM, otherwise even the lower guide white Macbook can catch up with the spec. I still love my MBP with built-in DVI port, anti-glare screen, free apple remote, all these no longer exist in new models. After upgrading to Snow Leopard (US$29! how awesome! I don’t think “7″ upgrade can have such deal with any of its home, basic, professional, ultimate version!! ) I believe I can even extend the year of use of my MBP!!

Reminder: It’s back-to-school now for educational users, free iPod touch~~~!!!
